6:51 pm - Fuck my alarm clock.
Why the hell don't you work when I switch from weekend alarms to weekday alarms? Getting up at 6:50am when your train leaves at 7:17am is not fucking fun. Still made the train though. I guess that's a plus.

9:02 pm - Awesome.
Chilling out with a beer on a Saturday night in your own house? Awesome as fuck.

Awkward meeting while out buying dinner? Not so much.

9:29 pm - WTF Microsoft?
We finally have the House of Hate Wired up, with a bitching Gigabit network and Wireless N WiFi. I managed to set the Wii up just fine, and when it came time to do the Xbox 360, I discovered it doesn't support WPA2.

What the hell?

11:06 am - Manifest X
It's over. I can also say without a doubt that it was one of the better Manifests I've been to. It blew last year out of the water.

But I'm sure other people will be posting about that. I'm looking to talk about what things are like as a committee member.

For people who know me and listen to me, I'm constantly saying that I'll never come back on Committee, I'll never do this, and never do that. Yet, at the AGM, I've signed up again and got some important role again. Why is this?

Well, last night during the final Exec meeting, the answer arrived. It's because at the end of it all, when I finally sat down after doing the final counting, I can say with pride "I helped make this. This is awesome because I worked on it". That's what keeps me coming back, year after year along with working with so many awesome people like Avi, Shadow, Tegan, Tannie, and others.

So once again, I will be returning to committee, I will be holding a position in the exec and I will continue to help make Manifest awesome, because otherwise I derive very little enjoyment from Manifest. After all, I don't watch the screenings (except AMVs), I don't buy stuff in the traders hall and cosplay doesn't really interest me.

As for 2010? Well, there's some exciting stuff going on behind the scenes that's very hush-hush, but this will make Manifest so much better. Trust me, if I'm working on it, it's gonna be awesome.

Finally, here's some fun facts:

1) We cleaned out two banks of all their notes and coins, and forced a third to put through a special order for more, just for us.
2) I've handled enough money to buy a nice house in Geelong.
3) The money raised for charity weighs so much that it takes two people to move it.
4) You can bootstrap the entire convention on $2,497.

I'm now sitting in my new room at the house of hate.

Fuck I'm tired beyond belief, but it's awesome now.

Time to sleep now. More tomorrow.

6:28 pm - The House of HATE
Well, shit just got busy real quick. Just started wrapping up a major project, only to start on the next one and now I've got to get enough done before I take some time off.

I've also finally moved out of my parents place. Utterly amazing I know. The plan was very simple. Just grab two mates and go apply for a nice house. It was an amazing success with us getting the first house we applied for. Which isn't surprising seeing as all three of us work full time in IT, earn bundles of cash and probably won't hold too many drunken parties.

Thus, the HOUSE OF HATE has been born. So, from next weekend I'm a 5 minute walk from South Geelong station, all for about $400 a month in rent.

Awesome stuff.

9:53 pm - Traffic Jams.
Loath them with every fibre of my being. I got stuck in one driving in to work today which caused me to be 45 minutes late, and I got stuck in another one driving back from the data centre. At least the second time around I had someone to talk to, which made it somewhat better.

9:44 pm - Minor Updates.
1) Well, Geelong vs St Kilda was awesome. Edge of seat stuff right there. So disappointed that Geelong lost, but it was still a good match. We'll still win the Grand Final though.

2) Tales of Vesperia is so much fun. Yuri is such an awesome protagonist, what with him being a bit of a dick :D Game also looks very nice.

3) Just got a major contract at work. It's going to be a huge challenge that'll test every bit of knowledge that I've got, especially combined with 'ambitious' deadlines. I look forward to the test. Comes with the potential of making a career ending fuckup, but the rewards are well worth the risk.

4) D-ARGH continues to trundle along happily.

5) Love the iPhone. Can't see myself living without it.

7:22 pm - "The Manga Where The Final Chapter Is The Most Amazing"
Based on current projections, I'll be in my 30's when One Piece finally ends. Just in time for this mid life crisis where I attempt to find a new religion.

9:36 pm - Is it just me?
Or has the price of .com.au domains fucking exploded over at PlanetDomin? I could have sworn when I purchased a .com.au it was $30 for 2 years about a month ago.

Now it's $55.

Might sign up as a reseller soon.

4:18 pm - God damn it.
Yeah, the new billing system I installed turned out to be useless because it can't understand the concept of charging people yearly.

So, I'm about to go develop my own...

10:42 pm - Hnn. Upgrades.
In a burst of activity, I've gone and started the massive raft of upgrades that will bring TC's hosting server in line with something that will almost look professional.

Sure, there's no web panel, nor will there ever be any DNS control, but I've got a new billing system, server monitors, webmail system and when another client pays his bill, then I can get a wild card SSL cert so we can have SECURE MAIL (Whoa!) with IMPROVED ANTI-SPAM
(Holy shit).

Also gotta make some more tweaks to the backup system and improve the alerts/reporting systems, then I'll finish the migrations.

Plenty to keep me busy.

10:20 am - Recent Happenings.
Got a Trench Coat recently, and it's awesome. Just in time too, as it's getting cold out there.

Things got busy recently, what with having whacked hours at work doing all sorts of out of hours upgrades and spending time writing review papers for Uni, which is now over for the semester.

Managed to take some time off on the Weekend and took my mother & sister to see a preview performance of Avenue Q on Saturday. Incredibly funny stuff, and very educational for Bonnie. (Also makes you think twice about watching that Angel episode "Smile Time")

Also went and saw Geelong kick the shit out of Essendon, much to the displeasure of Twitchy. Made the horrifying discovery that I actually enjoy watching football live, and that I'm looking forward to the Geelong vs St Kilda match in Round 14.

That's about it really.

9:03 am - Fuck it.
Re created the domain from scratch. My home network was just too complex to successfully untangle.

'cause here is how it was setup before.

1 Physical server, running Gentoo which pretty much did nothing but run VMware. There was a MySQL log server, but that was never really used. Now, the VMs where where the true clusterfuck starts.

The first VM was the Windows Server 2k3 one, which was the file server, domain controller and DNS for the zone home.internal.local. This server was slow as paint drying when trying to do any sort of file operation that required I/O access. Shit, before I did some tinkering transfering a file between virtual hard disks would grind the server to a halt.

Now, the second VM was your typical linux VM. But the difference was that it was the DHCP server and the DNS server for the .internal.local zone. It delegated home. to the first VM, but otherwise was the authoritative server for the whole network.

So, to preserve the domain while upgrading to 2008, I created a new VM on my desktop, transfered the domain and DNS for home. and everything looked sweet. Then the VM broke.

Nothing was working, as AD tried to update itself to prepare for the move to 2008 and it broke to. So, I tried creating a new Server 2k3 VM to transfer the domain to it. That broke everything else. Including the DNS for the whole .local zone.

So, I just went "fuck it" and re-created the domain from scratch. Lesson learned, don't make your home networks retardedly complex and when it comes time to upgrade them, it'll go smoother.

The only thing that's stopping me from just going "Fuck it" and re-creating my home AD domain from scratch is the fact that I will probably encounter the same 2003 -> 2008 problem in the future and if I learn how to fix it now, it'll be easier in the future.

Doesn't make it any less annoying.

10:12 pm - Good night sweet server, we knew you well.
Urd is dead. Long Live Urd.

Due to some retarded decisions way back when, my fileserver become slow as shit and it needed help. So, after spending the last month moving over 2TB of data on to other computers, external HDDs and other storage mediums at the incredibly slow speed of 8gb an hour.

So, VMware is removed and Server 2008 is being installed. Then VMware installed on top of that, meaning I can actually use the full potential of my network card.

and in other news, I really like my job. But now I have to write articles for the company blog. What the hell am I going to write about? How I increased apache's performance by learning to love memcache? Or "How not to shit your pants when the RAID controller fails on a mission critical server upon rebooting it"

Hmm.. Recently the number one topic would be "The Idiots Guide to working in a Datacentre (AKA Datacentres are fucking cold and loud.)"
